Security

The security of your information is vital to the success of your organization. Central Research recognizes this fact and has gone to great lengths to develop a physically secure environment, secure processes, and secure procedures for handling data. We invite questions concerning our processes. Some customers insist that an onsite review be made, and Central Research is more than happy to comply if your organization requires such a level of scrutiny of our facilities.

FISMA Compliant

The Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) outlines a series of security protocols, processes, and procedures required to work with Government agencies. Central Research is proud to announce our recent, sweeping efforts have made our company FISMA compliant.

Encryption

Clients of Central Research send files containing Personally Identifiable Information, including names, social security numbers, and other sensitive data. Two types of encryption are considered acceptable:

  • 256-bit encrypted ZIP files - these are easy to create and fast to send. Little to no setup is required. The down-side is that security of these files is easier to break. We recommend your passwords for these files be at least 20 characters long.
  • PGP Encryption - by far the strongest encryption available, but takes a bit longer to set up and there is a learning curve. We will send you our public key upon request.
  • File Transfering

  • SFTP - Secure File Transfer Protocol is available through Central Research. This is a secure method of sending files from one computer to another. Many free programs are available for download. We will set up an account for you upon request if this is your preferred method of file exchange.
  • SSL Upload Form - Secure Socket Layer Uploader. We have an upload form that transfers files to our self-hosted servers. Just browse to your file and click upload. Your files will be sent to us using 256-bit encryption. This is the easiest way to send files to us and no other encryption is necessary. We do always recommend using Encrypted Zip files or PGP in addition to any secure transfer processes.
